Dog Yelps and Passes Small Stools After a Bladder Infection Diagnosis
Pain when passing stool, with only small amounts coming out each time, alongside a urinary infection is worth calling your vet about now. In a male dog, one possibility vets consider is prostate inflammation or infection (prostatitis), which can cause both urinary signs and painful bowel movements because the prostate sits just below the rectum. Constipation, anal gland problems and back pain are other causes.
Your vet may want to do a rectal exam to check the prostate and anal glands, and possibly an ultrasound. Prostate infections often need a longer course of antibiotics than a simple bladder infection. Go right away if he strains to urinate and produces little or nothing, stops eating, vomits, or seems very painful or weak.
