Dense Lump on a Young Cockapoo That Couldn't Be Aspirated
Reader Question
Hi to the Wonderful People of this incredibly helpful website. My 3yr old cockapoo has a cyst like skin growth. I noticed it back in May of 2020, my vet forgot to check it (Covid-19). I brought him back and was told that they could not perform a FNA due to the density of the bump. He is healthy, happy, eats, exercises and show no symptoms of discomfort. The vet suggests having it surgically removed and biopsied. I am very very concerned, please offer your opinion.
Answer from Our Team
At 3 years old, most lumps are benign, but a firm lump that has been there since May and couldn't be sampled with a needle should be checked properly. Your vet's advice to remove it and send it for biopsy is the standard next step and usually answers the question.
Ask whether a small biopsy first or full removal is better, given its size and location.
See lumps and bumps on dogs.
