Crusty, Oozing Ear: Yeast or Something Else?

Reader Question
These are photos of my dogs right ear, after which they were shaved and cleaned with apple cider vinegar diluted 50/50 with water.

they were oozing yellow.

Please tell me if this looks like a yeast infection or something else.

Answer from Our Team

Yellow oozing and crusting can come from a bacterial infection, yeast, or both, and they can't be told apart reliably from photos. A swab examined under the microscope tells your vet which it is and which drops to use.

Please avoid vinegar on a raw, oozing ear; it can sting and irritate inflamed skin. Keep the area clean and dry, and have your vet check the ear canal and eardrum as well as the crusted skin.
