Bulldog With Ear Problems and Oozing Bumps on the Head

Reader Question
My English Bulldog turned 6 and started having skin problems, on top of her ear problems.

First question is can any one tell me what the name is for this thick cream that is (pink in color and smells like bacon/woodstove) that is used to pack in the ears and cures the ear problem?

Also she had what looked like a bite on her head, then it spread to have a few bumps that are oozing blood and clear liquid. I am keeping them clean with peroxide, alcohol, and neosporin. I am not sure what the best treatment is. SHould I keep them dry and leave them alone, or continue to clean them and use the ointment?

Any help is appreciated.

Answer from Our Team

Many vets pack infected ears with a medicated ointment, but there are several products, so ask your vet for the name of the one that worked. Bulldogs often have narrow ear canals and allergies, which make ear problems recur.

For the oozing bumps, stop using hydrogen peroxide and alcohol; they can damage healing skin and slow healing. Keep the area gently clean with mild soap and water and let your vet check it, since spreading oozing bumps can be a skin infection that needs specific treatment.
