Boxer Ulcer Not Healing After Debridement, Grid Keratotomy and Serum

Indolent "Boxer ulcers" can be stubborn, and it's not unusual to need the procedure repeated. Things worth asking your vet or a veterinary ophthalmologist about include: repeating the debridement (often with a diamond burr), a bandage contact lens, which speeds healing, a tear test to rule out dry eye, and a careful check for extra eyelashes. For ulcers that don't respond, a superficial keratectomy, a surgery under general anesthesia, has a success rate of 95% or more.
Ask about pain relief by mouth too. If cost is a concern, an ophthalmologist visit may still save money by finding the fastest route to healing.
