Beagle Who Scoots Even When Her Anal Glands Are Empty
If she still scoots and seems in pain after the glands are emptied, something else may be going on. Possibilities include sacs that are inflamed or infected rather than just full, itchy allergic skin around the anus, tapeworms, or less commonly a problem in the rectum or spine.
Ask your vet for a full rear-end exam, including a look at the gland fluid and skin, and a fecal test. Treating inflamed sacs with flushing and medication, and treating any allergy, often helps dogs like her.
