Bad Smell Coming From a Large Mast Cell Tumor
by Julie
(Garner, NC)
A foul smell from a large tumor usually means the surface has broken down or become infected. That can be uncomfortable and needs your vet's attention. They may prescribe antibiotics, recommend gentle cleaning, and suggest pain relief.
To stop licking, use a cone (Elizabethan collar) or a soft recovery collar, or a light, breathable cover your vet recommends. Ask your vet whether palliative options, such as radiation or medicines suited to her tumor, could make her more comfortable. If the lump starts bleeding, or she becomes quiet, stops eating or seems unwell, see your vet promptly. It's good to hear she's still happy and eating.
This is general information, not a diagnosis. Please follow your own vet's advice.
