16-Year-Old Dachshund With Heart Failure Who Is Suddenly Lethargic and Drooling
Sudden lethargy and drooling aren't a normal step in heart failure and need a vet today. Drooling can come from nausea (including from medication), mouth pain, low blood pressure or weakness, and lethargy can mean the heart failure or rhythm problem is getting worse.
Check his gums and his breathing rate while he rests. Go to an emergency vet if his breathing is fast or labored, his gums are pale or blue, or he collapses. Your vet can adjust his medicines and help keep him comfortable, and can talk with you about quality of life when you're ready.
