10-Week-Old Rottweiler Puppy Panting Heavily at Rest
by Morgan
(Pittsburgh, PA)
Puppies breathe faster than adults, and a new home is stressful, so some panting can be normal. But heavy panting when it isn't hot and he hasn't been active is worth a vet check, especially in a new puppy.
Count his breathing while he's asleep. If it stays fast, or he coughs, has pale or blue gums, a poor appetite, or seems weak, see a vet promptly. Ask the vet to listen to his heart and check for infections at his first visit.
See dog panting for normal breathing rates.
