Matching Lumps on Both Sides of an Akita's Upper Lip
by A reader
Lumps on both sides of the upper jaw that appeared at the same time are less likely to be cancer and more likely to be swelling from the upper back teeth (tooth root infections), swollen salivary tissue, or a bony change. Sneezing more than usual is a clue, because the upper tooth roots are right next to the nose and sinuses.
Please have your vet look in her mouth soon. Dental X-rays and a needle sample of the lumps usually show the cause. If it's tooth related, treating the teeth often solves both the lumps and the sneezing.
Go sooner if the lumps grow quickly, bleed, she has a nosebleed or bad breath, or she has trouble eating.
