Is My Young Puppy Vomiting From Parvo?
by A reader
Vomiting and weakness in a young puppy can be parvo, especially if he isn't fully vaccinated, but other causes include intestinal worms, eating something he shouldn't, an intestinal blockage, and other infections. Parvo often also causes diarrhea, which may be bloody, a loss of appetite and low energy.
The only way to know is a quick parvo test at a vet, which takes about 10 minutes from a stool sample. Please take him today. Puppies with parvo can get dangerously dehydrated very fast, and early treatment with fluids greatly improves survival.
Until you get there, don't force food, keep him warm, and keep him away from other dogs. If cost is a worry, ask your vet about a payment plan, or look for a low-cost clinic, humane society clinic or veterinary school near you.
