Fluid-Filled Growths Near a Chihuahua's Vulva
by A reader
Soft sacs that fill and then go down near the vulva are often swollen glands or cysts, an abscess that is draining, or fluid pockets in the skin folds around the vulva. In a female who isn't spayed, swelling of the vulva itself during heat, or tissue pushing out from the vagina, can also look like this. Growths of the vagina also happen, mostly in older unspayed females, and many are benign.
Because one is not going down, please have your vet take a look. A quick needle sample often shows whether it is fluid, infection or a solid growth. Let them know whether she is spayed and when her last heat was.
Until then, keep the area clean and dry and stop her licking it. See your vet sooner if it bleeds, smells, grows quickly, or if she strains to pee or poop.
This is general information, not a diagnosis. Please follow your own vet's advice.
