Answer from Our Team

Dog scabies mites can cause itchy red bumps on people, but they can't complete their life cycle on human skin. In most people, the itch goes away within a few weeks once the dog is treated and the home is cleaned. Human scabies is a different mite that does live in human skin and needs prescription treatment.

Vinegar is not an effective treatment for scabies in people or dogs, and it can irritate the skin. Please see a doctor if you're itchy, so they can tell whether it's dog mites or human scabies and treat you properly.

For your dog, a vet can prescribe very effective anti-mite treatment, and it's important to treat every dog in the home. Wash bedding and fabrics in hot water.

See sarcoptic mange (scabies) in dogs.

This is general information, not a diagnosis. Please follow your own vet's advice.
