Callus-Like Bumps on the Edges of a Corgi's Eyelids
by A reader
Small, firm, crusty bumps right on the eyelid margins are most often one of three things: small benign eyelid growths (the most common eyelid tumors in dogs are benign oil-gland growths that look like little warts or calluses), a blocked or inflamed eyelid gland (a chalazion or stye), or inflammation of the eyelid edges called blepharitis, which can come from allergies, bacteria or mites.
Most eyelid growths in dogs are benign, but they can rub on the eye and scratch the cornea as they grow, so it is worth having them checked while they are small. Small growths are often easy to remove, sometimes with only sedation and a local numbing agent.
Watch for squinting, redness, discharge, or pawing at the eye. Those mean the bumps are irritating the eye and he should be seen sooner. Please don't pick at or try to remove them at home.
