A Round Pink Spot on a Rottweiler's Face After Surgery
by A reader
An allergic reaction to antibiotics usually causes hives, itching, facial swelling or a widespread rash, not a single round spot. A round, raised, pink, hairless bump on the face of a young dog is very often a histiocytoma, a common benign growth that usually goes away on its own within 1 to 3 months. A small bite or infection is also possible.
Mention it to your vet at his stitch removal check. If it grows quickly, bleeds or doesn't shrink within a few weeks, a needle sample can confirm what it is.
Call your vet right away if you notice facial swelling, hives, vomiting or trouble breathing, which can be signs of a drug reaction.
