A Hard Lump on a Scottish Terrier's Snout
by A reader
On the otherside also is a smaller bulge but of equal hardness.
The scotty has had two surgical removals of a non similar growth which were mast cell. Is this a possible calcium deposit?
A hard, bony-feeling lump between the nose and eye can be a growth of the bone or sinus, a tooth root abscess or cyst, or a growth in the soft tissue over the bone. Calcium deposits are uncommon in this spot. With a history of mast cell tumors, any new lump should be checked, though this one may be unrelated.
Please ask your vet to check it soon. A needle sample and dental or skull X-rays can usually tell what it is. Growths in the nose or sinuses can sometimes push on the bone and cause a bulge.
Watch for sneezing, nasal discharge or nosebleeds, bad breath, eye discharge on that side, or pain when eating.
This is general information, not a diagnosis. Please follow your own vet's advice.
