A Dog Who Stopped Eating After a Rabies Shot
by A reader
Mild tiredness and a reduced appetite for a day or two after a vaccine are common, and usually pass on their own. A sore spot where the shot was given can also make a dog want to lie still.
Please call your vet if it lasts more than 1 to 2 days, if he won't eat at all, or drinks very little. Go to an emergency vet right away if you see facial swelling, hives, vomiting, diarrhea, trouble breathing, pale gums or collapse, which can be signs of an allergic reaction.
Let your vet know about this reaction before his next vaccine. They may suggest spacing out vaccines or giving medicine beforehand.
