Dog Eye Cannot Open
by: Anonymous

Hi,

My 4 month old Pitbull cannot open his eye. He has discharge from his eye and his pupil is really small.

I do not know what is going on and I am really worried. I cannot go to a veterinarian due to the high cost since and I cannot afford it.

Respond to me asap.

Thank You.

Vet Suggestion Dog Eye That Does Not Open

Hello,

I’m afraid you really have no choice but to take your dog to a veterinarian for diagnosis and appropriate treatment. Symptoms like those that you describe can be caused by a number of different conditions, some of which are very serious (e.g., wounds to the surface of the eye and severe infections). Your dog could lose his eye if he doesn’t receive treatment in a timely manner.

Many veterinarians are happy to help owners figure out options for payment when finances are tight. This situation sounds serious enough that asking friends and family for help is also reasonable. A list of payment resources is available on the ASPCA’s website.

Good luck,

Jennifer Coates, DVM
